Smashing the world transfer record in 2009 when he left Manchester United for the Spanish giants, Los Blancos’ all-time top scorer then departed the Bernabeu in 2018 a five-time winner of both the Ballon d’Or and Champions League.
He wasn’t able to recreate such success in subsequent stints at Juventus and a second spell at United, though, and now plies his trade with Al-Nassr.
Now aged 39, Ronaldo is getting closer to the end of his career and while he is not sure when he’ll call it a day, it appears the decision that will break many football fans’ hearts will be made while still representing his current Saudi employers.
“I don’t know if I’ll finish soon or in two or three years. But, possibly, it will be at Al Nassr. It’s the team where I’m happy, where I’m good, where I feel good, both in the country and in the league.
“That’s why, most likely I can finish my career at Al Nassr. I’m very happy to play in the Arab league and I want to continue,” Ronaldo said to Now.
Failing to make much of an impact at the most recent Euros won by Spain as his country limped out of the quarterfinals to France, Ronaldo insisted that he’ll not reveal his plans as per retiring from international football, and therefore the Portugal fold, to those in his circle ahead of making an announcement.
“When I leave the national team, I won’t tell anyone in advance and it will be a very spontaneous decision on my part, but also a very well thought-out one.
“Right now what I want is to be able to help the national team in their upcoming matches. We have the Nations League ahead of us and I would really like to play,” Ronaldo stressed.
Another interesting part of Ronaldo’s comments were where he confirmed he doesn’t see himself in the dugout one day after hanging up his boots.
“At the moment, I’m not thinking about being a coach of the first team or any team. It doesn’t even cross my mind, I’ve never thought about it.
“I don’t see my future going through that. I see myself doing other things outside of football, but only God knows what the future holds,” he concluded on this matter.
