“Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has become a heavyweight in world football”

French media outlet Le Point explains the rise of Moroccan football and the spectacular progress it has recently made.

In an article published this Monday, August 26, the French media The Point shows admiration for the change in the dimension of Moroccan football in recent years. The country has become “a heavyweight” in world football.

The article highlights several points on which monumental work has been done: the results in competition, clearly improving over the years, the considerable development of the various infrastructures, but also the co-organization of the World Cup in 2030, a great consecration. Morocco’s ambition is rewarded.

Unprecedented results that arouse admiration
The Point recalls that Morocco is fourth in the Qatar-2022 World Cup, bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and was the first selection from North Africa to reach the second round of a Women’s World Cup (Australia-New Zealand 2023). “Morocco has been on a roll in recent years,” believes the media outlet, which claims that “these good results are no accident.” It explains that a “major renovation project” was undertaken to achieve these impressive results.

Dual nationals seduced
“Infrastructure, hosting competitions, talent detection, dual nationals: under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco launched its football development plan at the turn of the 2010s,” states Le Point.

This is about the Mohammed VI Academy, a model of success and excellence that has offered an incalculable number of talents to the different categories of national selections, including Youssef En-Nesyri, Azzedine Ounahi and other Nayef Aguerd. But also Oussama Targhalline and Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, young players as promising as they are talented.

The Point also mentions the Mohammed VI Complex in Maâmora, a high place of national football and authentic jewels of sports infrastructure. A complex that “is the pride of the country and helps attract players”. Equipped with the ultimate in terms of equipment, it constantly hosts local and continental selections as well as top-ranking events, such as the 2022 CAF Awards.

All featured selections
The Point also welcomes the fact that this admirable progress of Morocco concerns all selections, including the women’s and futsal. “In 2019, there were seven selections for men, women and futsal, there are now 18 occupying the center,” writes the media, which recalls that 60 million euros have been injected to develop this sector.

The FRMF’s leading role at the continental level is also discussed. Morocco is presented as “a major player for the African continent and the Confederation of African Football relies heavily on the African country”. 45 partnerships have been developed with 54 federations. In addition, each year, a class of 30 coaches, including 15 from other African countries, obtain the CAF A coaching license, a diploma that Morocco is the only one to offer. Morocco was also the first country to introduce video refereeing on the continent.

Ready for Yallavamos2030
“The organization of major tournaments is the last stone in the building according to many observers,” writes The Point in reference to the next two major events that the country is organizing: the CAN 2025 and the World Cup 2030 (jointly with Spain and Portugal). The media explains that “for the occasion, a huge stadium will be built in Casablanca with a capacity of 115,000 seats. In this wake, other types of infrastructure are planned.” This is the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane.

Finally, the media questions the absence of a recent continental title for the A selection, the Atlas Lions, but believes that this could be quickly resolved. “Morocco must shine both through its stadiums and on the field,” says The Point concerning the CAN 2025 which the Lions must therefore win in front of their public and at home.
