For more than fifty hours from Friday to Sunday, participants will raise funds for five associations fighting against precariousness. In 2022, the event raised more than ten million euros.

After a year’s hiatus, ZEvent, a charity video game marathon on Twitch that brings together around thirty French streamers in Montpellier and around a hundred online, is making its return on Thursday with a big concert launching its 8th edition.e edition. With Caravan Palace, Deluxe and Mosimann headlining, as well as Littlebigwhale and PV Nova, the show at the Zénith in Montpellier marks the kick-off of this streaming weekend.

For more than fifty hours from Friday to Sunday, participants will raise funds for five associations fighting against poverty, including Secours Populaire, Bureaux du cœur and Solidarité Paysans, in conjunction with the Fondation de France.

ZEvent brings together an average of between 500,000 and one million spectators. It broke its own record in 2022 by raising more than ten million euros for environmental associations. This year, it counts in its ranks streamers such as Antoine Daniel, Baghera Jones and Ultia, the presenter of the talk show Popcorn Domingo or even the host Samuel Étienne.

In the wake of a Telethon

The novelty of this edition is the participation of a hundred other online streamers – reflecting the hundred streams with the most hours viewed over the past year, according to the organization – who will be able to feed a common kitty.

“The goal, in the long term, is that everyone can participate, a bit like a Telethon.”explained to AFP Adrien Nougaret, aka ZeratoR, co-organizer of the event with his right-hand man Alexandre Dachary. He hopes to open the ZEvent to all streamers who want it next year.

However, there has been much criticism on the social network X regarding certain profiles selected among the 100, notably accused of having made inappropriate comments. “I’m not minimizing at all what people have said.”ZeratoR pointed out. If he admits that “It’s very difficult to judge, to set a limit”he pleads for a “right to redemption”.

ZEvent had taken a break in 2023 to give its creators some perspective on “the polarization of social networks” but also the pressure to do “Always further, always stronger”according to its founder.
