“The members of the psychological unit should return to the nursery school on Thursday morning,” says Christian Vermot-Desroches, mayor of Vercel-Villedieu-le-Camp.

It is understandable that almost 48 hours after the events, the children were very shocked by what they experienced on Tuesday.

At midday, while they were going to the after-school cafeteria for their lunch, a drunk man lost control of his vehicle on the main street, knocking down several children and their chaperone.

The reckless driver will soon be brought before the Besançon public prosecutor’s office

A five-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy and the after-school employee were injured. Taken care of by emergency workers, they were hospitalized during the day in Besançon. This Wednesday at midday, they were able to leave the Jean-Minjoz University Hospital.

The driver was arrested on the spot by the police. He was drunk and in a daze.

The verification of his alcohol level was complicated. Before he was taken into custody, the military were able to establish that he had a blood alcohol level of 3.07 g/l.

According to a source in the gendarmerie, the septuagenarian driver should be brought before a magistrate of the Besançon public prosecutor’s office who will decide on legal proceedings.

The events shocked the residents of Vercel-Villedieu-le-Camp, especially the young children of the nursery school of the commune. A psychological unit formed by four professionals went to the school on Tuesday afternoon. An establishment which has 56 pupils. At the time of the accident, 21 toddlers were walking on the sidewalk, accompanied by their after-school chaperone. Given the circumstances of the events, this accident could have turned into a tragedy.
