Léa Seydoux is one of the most prominent actresses in French cinema in recent years. With a well-stocked filmography, the 39-year-old actress, revealed in The Life of Adele by Abdellatif Kechichecontinues to accumulate roles… as eclectic as they may be. From the saga James Bond has Dune through his appearances on Bruno Dumont’s show, in Franceand Quentin Dupieux, in The Second Act. In 2022, she is also on the bill forOne beautiful morning, by director Mia Hansen-Løve, broadcast this Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 8:55 p.m. on Arte. A film also available on the platform Arte.tv.

A beautiful morning : what is the film about?

Mia Hansen-Løve is a regular at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2021, her excellent Bergman Island is notably presented in the official selection of the competition. In 2022, 15 years later All is forgiven (2007), the filmmaker also returned to the Directors’ Fortnight category for A beautiful morning with Léa Seydoux. The latter tells the story of a young woman who must take care of her father who suffers from a degenerative disease. A daily struggle during which she reconnects with a long-lost friend, Clément, played by Melvil Poupaud.

One beautiful morning, an autobiographical film

For her seventh production, Mia Hansen-Løve delivers a drama as sensitive as it is touching, inspired by her personal story, as she explains in the press kit : “After Bergman Island, this film imposed itself on me. During the winter of 2019-2020, I wrote this screenplay partly inspired by my father’s illness while he was still alive. I was trying to make sense of what I was going through. And I wanted to explore how two opposing feelings, mourning and rebirth, can interact by experiencing them simultaneously. Even if it is tormented, the story between Sandra and Clément is above all a joy. With her father, it is only suffering. The two stories coexist. I was interested in finding a cinematographic form to show this coexistence.“. A film to see!
