After winning two medals in track cycling, the Breton won his first road race on Wednesday after a fantastic comeback.
He is establishing himself as the king of cycling. On a 14.2 km circuit with Clichy-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) as the starting and finishing point, on Wednesday 4 September, Alexandre Léauté was the best in the time trial. Among the favourites, the 23-year-old Frenchman did not start as strongly as Ewoud Vromant. Behind the Belgian on the clock throughout the race, Alexandre Léauté won his gold medal in the last kilometre of the time trial (category C2).
Against his main rival, he managed to win the race with a 2”16 lead. Alexandre Léauté won his first gold medal on the road and did better than in Tokyo where he won the bronze medal in this discipline. The native of Côtes-d’Armor already has three medals to his name in Paris. And his raid is not over since Alexandre Léauté is still involved in the road race, Saturday, September 7.
