Laurent Chardard, 3rd in the 50m butterfly: “It’s my first Paralympic medal, not necessarily the one I came for but I’m super proud of myself. In Tokyo I came fourth, there third, not necessarily with my best time but I’m on the podium. In an atmosphere like that, there’s Ugo (Didier)who is second just before me so that makes you hungry. Third, that makes you want to do better. There are still races left (100m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 4x100m mixed medley relay) to go get medals. The crowd was magical. They are for the French, they shout before we enter the Arena, it gives you chills. I knew that the Chinese and the Colombian were the ones we had to fight against (respectively 1st and 2nd). They touch in front of me, it swims in 31”24, I had done 31”00 at the World Championships last year. I do 31”65 today (mardi)but it’s a great race.”
