The ten jurors of the Académie Goncourt announced this Tuesday, September 3, their selection of 16 novels competing this year for the 122e Goncourt Prize edition.

A first for Michel Lafon editions

In this list we find a first novel, that of Ruben Barrouk, All the noise of Guéliz published by Albin Michel as well as that of the usual author of detective novels Olivier Norek, The Winter Warriorspublished by Michel Lafon, who are placing one of their titles in the Goncourt Prize selection for the first time.

Three Gallimard titles and two Grasset titles

The latter is made up of six novels written by women compared to ten written by men and seven published by five brands of the Madrigall group including three novels from Gallimard, four from the Hachette group including two from Grasset, two Albin Michel publications, one Media-Participation (L’Olivier) and a last one for Editis (Julliard).

A list for several prices

Apart from Gaël Faye, who has already received the prize, the fifteen other novelists will be able to compete for the Goncourt des Lycéens (read below). On the other hand, all should participate in the 3rd edition of the Goncourt des prisonniers, which offers the opportunity to nearly 600 prisoners to immerse themselves in a passionate reading and to make their voices heard to elect their winner whose name will be revealed on December 17 at the National Book Center, organizer of this emanation of the prestigious literary prize.

The Academy is complete with ten place settings, engraved with the name of Philippe Claudelnew president of the Academy elected in May 2024, Camille Laurenssecretary, then in order of seniority Françoise Chandernagor, Didier Decoin, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Pierre Assouline, Paule Constant, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Pascal Bruckner et Christine Angot.

Last year, the Goncourt Prize was awarded to Jean-Baptiste Andrea for his novel Watch over herpublished by L’Iconoclaste, and since sold over 600,000 copies in large format, according to GFK.

The 2024 Goncourt des Lycéens: here we go!

The publication of today’s Académie Goncourt selection announces the launch of the Prix du Goncours des Lycéens, organized by La Fnac.
This year, 55 high schools will be part of the jury (including three French high schools abroad from Jordan, Canada and the United States).

Here are the different stages of this year:

  • From October 7 to 17: meetings between high schools and authors
  • November 25: regional deliberations
  • November 28: national deliberations and proclamation, in Rennes.
