After twenty-four hours of rest near Oviedo, in Asturias, on Monday, the riders will attack the last week of the Vuelta, on Tuesday, September 3, with a new mountain stage in the northwest of Spain. From Luanco, they will cover 181.5 km to reach the lakes of Covadonga, in the Picos de Europa, where Primoz Roglic had already won in 2021, the date of his last victory in the Tour of Spain.
The Slovenian, still second in the general classification, will have the opportunity to make up time on Ben O’Connor. The red jersey now has only a 1″03 lead over Roglic, who was given a 20-second penalty at the finish on Sunday for taking shelter for a long time behind his sports director’s car after changing his bike. The Australian is not one of the favourites on the heights of northern Spain, but will be keen to limit the damage to prolong his title dream.
