Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann was arrested after being accused of driving under the influence Wednesday evening. Officers responded to 16th Avenue S and 3rd Street S around 9:51 p.m.The caller told Naples police officers that he and his wife were followed home by a woman driving a silver vehicle. The caller said the woman stopped her car on the grass in front of the caller’s home.After a short conversation, the caller contacted police and told them the woman was claiming to be the mayor and appeared intoxicated.Officers arrived on the scene and found Heitmann leaning against her vehicle.During the investigation, officers say they believed Heitmann may have been intoxicated while driving the car.Reports say Heitmann agreed to do a field sobriety test. Following the investigation, officers say they found probable cause to arrest Heitmann for driving under the influence.She was taken to the Naples Jail Center and agreed to do a breath test to determine her blood alcohol content.Heitmann reportedly took two samples, which resulted in a blood alcohol content of 0.155 and 0.169. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.Naples police say she was the sole occupant of the vehicle. According to Collier County arrest logs, Heitmann is facing charges of DUI with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher. The Naples mayor reportedly bonded out at $500 Thursday morning.Heitmann’s attorney told NBC2 they had no comments about her DUI arrest.
