Kylian Mbappé is at the center of a new penalty-gate at Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe failed to score his first La Liga goal on Thursday in Real Madrid’s disappointing draw with Las Palmas.
A handball in the penalty area allowed Los Blancos to equalise in Gran Canaria, but it was Vinicius Junior who won the penalty and scored it.
The new penalty gate
The decision to have Vinicius take the penalty did not come from Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian has always organised Real Madrid’s penalty takers, but this season he is leaving the decision to the players on the pitch, as revealed by Relevo.
Vinicius and Mbappe are expected to be the two main candidates to take penalties this season, and so they will be the ones who will decide on the pitch.
That could cause problems if they were to face each other, although that did not happen on Thursday – Ancelotti, as well as everyone associated with Real Madrid, will hope that continues in the future.
