This Sunday, while he was dreaming of a double, Victor Koretzky finished in 2nd place in cross-country, during the Mountain Bike World Championships. In Andorra, it was Alan Hatherly who was crowned world champion.

We take the same and we start again… but in a different order this time! Indeed, a few weeks after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we find the same men on the podium during the cross-country event of the 2024 World Championships. This Sunday, in Pal Arinsal, Victor Koretzky was in the running to do the double, after being crowned world champion in short-track last Friday. Unfortunately for him, the Frenchman once again had to settle for 2nd place, just like at the Olympics. In Andorra, it was Alan Hatherly who signed the best victory of his career thanks to a fatal attack on his competitors on the last lap. While Koretzky was very wary of Tom Pidcock, it was the South African who came out on top. Olympic champion after having shone on the hill of Élancourt on July 29, the rider from the Ineos Grenadiers team had to settle for 3rd place this time.

Hatherly: “Winning is a dream come true”

« I am very moved, I had good legs. Winning is a dream come true. I had put a lot of pressure on myself before this race to be up to the task for my family, my staff, my country. As I expected, Victor (Koretzky) picked up the pace on the descents and on the climb, I felt on a restart that it was perhaps the moment. I thought “it’s the World Championship”, I had no right not to take risks. This is just the beginning of our country’s history. You will see in the coming years. “, Hatherly, the new cross-country world champion, subsequently reacted to Eurosport. Thanks to Koretzky, France has 12 medals in these World Championships (four gold, seven silver and one bronze).
