Thibaut de Longeville

Documentary series: DJ Mehdi : Made in France

A music lover, self-taught and turntable prodigy, DJ Mehdi was the first French artist to have successfully bridged the gap between two worlds that were then polar opposites: rap and electro, in the late 1990s. Thirteen years after his sudden death, a documentary series created by Thibaut de Longeville, director and close friend of DJ Mehdi, highlights the role of this free spirit, a pioneer and unknown to the general public, in the emergence of the French rap and electro scenes.
Unpublished archive images and exclusive testimonies from big names in music (Kery James, Rim’K, Mokobé, MC Solaar, Cassius, Justice, Pedro Winter, etc.) offer a glimpse into the private life of DJ Mehdi and lift the veil on the man who helped forge the careers of artists from the international rap and electro scenes.

Drawing on personal videos and unpublished archives of DJ Mehdi, filmed from his adolescence until his tragic death, as well as on the testimonies of big names of the music scene who rubbed shoulders with him, Thibaut de Longeville traces the trajectory of his friend and child of rap, Mehdi Faveris-Essadi (1977-2011). Little known to the general public but a true icon for connoisseurs, this composer and producer with the magic touch left a deep mark on the music scene over the course of two decades: the magnetic center of a galaxy without borders, it broke through the barrier of rap and electro sounds to reconcile universes that were then in the midst of the Cold War. In its footsteps, the series delves back into this abundant era when French rap freed itself from its US model and revolutionized the national cultural landscape, and when the “French Touch” was exported to conquer all the dancefloors on the planet.

Summoning a wide variety of artists and personalities who crossed his path and shared his journey – between the members of the Mafia K’1 Fry collective with Kery James, 113 or MC Solaar, Diam’s, Pedro Winter, Cassius, Daft Punk, Justice, the star DJ A-Trak or Romain Gavras who directed his videos – as well as his loved ones (his mother Latifa Essadi, his cousin Myriam Essadi, and his wife Fafi), this tribute draws the portrait of a virtuoso who passed away too soon, a young DJ whose mixed heritage still infuses current music.

Dylan Dylan

Album : Love theory

Broken house, techno, acid loops, UK garage… Dylan Dylan’s influences and affinities are multiple and can be found both in his DJ sets and his precise productions.
From a young age, she learned the piano and was immersed in a rich musical environment, then discovered electronic music and club culture on the benches of the university.

She gained experience through several club residencies, and then logically moved on to production; she signed several releases under various aliases, on labels such as Defected, Diversions Records (Oxia’s label) and Egregore.
But it was in 2022, with the release of her first album Euphoria, that she truly gained recognition from the specialist press and her peers. Hailed by critics, this first LP is a “delicately hypnotic musical journey” (Tsugi) and definitively places Dylan Dylan at the top of the pile of new talents on the French electronic scene.
2024 marks a new turning point in his career with the start of his residency at Badaboum in Paris, but above all the release of his second album Love Theory.
