RER C users are suffering the effects of a very long power outage this Friday afternoon. Due to a problem with the electricity supply infrastructure in the Pereire – Levallois sector (Paris, 17th century), no train can run between Champ-de-Mars (Paris, 7th century) and Pontoise (Val-d’Oise) since this morning, in both directions. “A specialized team is on site and is evacuating the trains stuck in the area,” the RER C account on network X indicated this morning. The checks are completed, intervention is necessary on the catenary. Repairs to the area require a complete shutdown of traffic in the area for the remainder of the day.” The resumption of traffic is announced for 11:30 p.m. this Friday.
Traffic is also disrupted on the RER C between Champ-de-Mars and Pont-de-Rungis (Val-de-Marne), in both directions. Until then, tens of thousands of travelers must find alternative routes. Towards Pontoise, it is possible to take line H, from Gare du Nord or line J, from Saint-Lazare station. Towards Pont de Rungis, line 14 takes you to Thiais-Orly station.
A problem line
The 540,000 daily users of the RER C experience numerous incidents and repeated disruptions. Already in November 2022, an electrical incident in the Pereire-Levallois sector had interrupted traffic for an entire day. Last March, emergency measures were announced by SNCF and Île-de-France Mobilités to rectify the situation on this sprawling and dilapidated line. The results of this plan are still timid. Average punctuality between January and August reaches 87.80%, although southern branches are still often affected by train cancellations.
