Résumé :

Nedjma, 18 years old: “On a wall on my street, there is graffiti: The first one to fall in love has lost.
I say it’s true.
Because afterwards, everyone talks about you. Because afterwards, you’re at the mercy, you think about it all the time, and the world is upside down. I lost, I’m in love with a girl, I don’t know what to do…”

Filming secrets, anecdotes: did you know?

  • The Best are the first feature film from the author-director Marion Desseigne Ravelwho notably collaborated on the film’s screenplay The Land of Men (2020).
  • In the press kit, the director returned to the genesis : “When I arrived in Paris to do FEMIS, I found an apartment in the Goutte-d’Or district. Downstairs from my house was an association that provided academic support and I immediately wanted to go and see it, to meet these young people. I found myself volunteering for homework help and some Saturdays we shot short films as part of a film workshop. It was the time of Marriage for all. We were talking about it everywhere (…) [et] The teenagers from the association arrived one day with very virulent leaflets and took me to task on the issue of homosexuality. I was in a relationship with a woman and I told them. It opened up a space for dialogue between us. Their questions shook me and upset me. All this gave rise to the idea of Best and the desire to tell a love story between two young Maghrebi women in a working-class neighborhood.”
  • The Best received the Gan Foundation Creation Award in 2019 for his screenplay.
