Jean-Pierre Foucault is one of Frédéric Lopez’s three guests this Sunday, September 29, 2024 in A Sunday in the countryside. At the start of the show, the TF1 host looked back on his adolescence, which was disrupted by the assassination of his father, an importer and exporter of fruits and vegetables.
The fatherless host at 14
“One day, February 20 or 19, he left for Algeria to check the company’s accounts. And on February 22, 1962, he was shot in the back and in the neck in the street. We don’t know why. I never knew why“, he first said. Initially, it was explained to him that his father was simply the victim of a car accident: “I imagined he was going to come back on crutches, I waited for the door to open and my father to arrive. (…) He did not come back. This is how, at 14, I suddenly became an adult. Suddenly, my heart hardened, I became someone else, including at school. And that’s why I started clowning. To avoid being asked the eternal question ‘why was your father taken down in the street?’. It was like that all the time. And I had enough“.
Jean-Pierre Foucault angry with France
Adopted by the nation with his sisters, Jean-Pierre Foucault then received his ward card of the nation on which is written: “Son of Marcel Joseph Foucaut, died for France“. “And what hurt me the most in my teenage life was that (…) an official took a ruler and crossed out ‘death for France’. So my father died for nothing. I threw this card away. I said ‘I’m going to show France that I don’t need to be adopted by them, I can fend for myself“, said the host, with tears in his eyes. A few days after the murder of his father, Jean-Pierre Foucault’s mother forced him to change places at the table to take his father’s place. “There, I understood that I had become the head of the family“.
The premeditated murder of the host’s father
A few months ago, in Paris MatchJean-Pierre Foucault revealed that he had recently found the handrail left at the time by police officers. He then discovered that the assassination had been premeditated. The host established a theory: was the murderer an associate of his father? “His partner must have stolen from the cash register. Like at the time, for a ticket, you could bring down whoever you wanted, he bought his peace like that. I guess, I don’t know. Either way, it’s too late and it won’t bring him back“, sadly concludes the host, who will soon appear in the TV movie Murders on the Blue Coast on France 3, the first role of his career.
