Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse on yellow alert from Sunday night to Monday

The weather is getting worse in Provence. After the departments of and Hérault were put on orange alert on Sunday, September 22, it is the turn of Bouches-du-Rhône and to switch from green to yellow. And for good reason, heavy rainstorms are expected in the middle of the night from Sunday to Monday.

According to the Aix-en-Provence branch of Météo-, the depression will evolve from the end of the day. The rainy and stormy episode will arrive from the west of Bouches-du-Rhône and will slowly move east to reach the and the Alpes-Maritimes at the end of the night.

Inland areas less affected

Rainfall could reach 40 to 50 mm in about three hours in the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Less mobile on the coast, the disturbance will be more intense there. 60 to 80 mm of water is expected on the , Aix-en-Provence axis, up to Les Arcs.

The interior of the Provençal lands is therefore much less affected. In Vaucluse, it is rather the extreme south of the department, the Petit Luberon, which should be affected. The rest of the department as well as the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence will be impacted to a lesser extent.

In and the rest of Bouches-du-Rhône, the rain should last until early morning, and until the afternoon in Var and Alpes-Maritimes where the disturbance is shifting.

The expected accumulation is significant, but it is not exceptional.“, nevertheless tempers the Aix weather antenna. On average, 52 mm of rain fell this month of September in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Last year, in 2023, only 28.8 mm fell in the same month.
