Yvelines Pauline Déroulède and Charlotte Fairbank (TC Voisins-le-Bretonneux), teamed up with Ksénia Chasteau and Emmanuelle Mörch respectively, were eliminated in the first round of the women’s doubles of the Paralympic Games wheelchair tennis tournament, Friday, August 30, 2024, at Roland-Garros. A big disappointment.
Pauline Déroulède and her partner crack in the super tie-break
Pauline Déroulède, victim of a traffic accident six years ago who made her lose a leg, had promised her loved ones, from her hospital bed, that she would participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The member of TC Voisins-le-Bretonneux has passed very close to victory alongside Ksenia Chasteau. The French doubles team suffered in three sets from the Colombian pair Angelica Bernal/Zuleinny Rodriguez Trujillo on the Philippe-Chatrier court.
Quickly led 3/0 then 4/1, the French women conceded the first set (6/2) before coming back to level (6/4 in the second set). Everything was going to be decided at super tie-breakThe French pair believed for a long time that they had secured their ticket to the quarter-finals and even obtained two match points at 9/7.
More at the end of the suspenseand despite the unconditional support of a public completely won over to their cause, Pauline Déroulède and Ksénia Chasteau cracked and lost 9/11.
The adventure doesn’t end there for Pauline Déroulède, and her partner by the way. The two players are playing the first round of singles this Saturday, August 31, 2024. The Yvelines player will meet Colombian Angélica Bernal, ranked 6, on the Philippe-Chatrier courte at the ITF. The opportunity to take revenge, and to continue dreaming of a medal.
Charlotte Fairbank and her accomplice give in at the end of the suspense
The match between Charlotte Fairbank and Emmanuelle Mörch, scheduled for early afternoon on an uncovered side court, could only be played very late in the eveningThe second French pair also failed to get through this first round.
The Tricolores lost (4/6, 6/1, 10/4), also at the end of the super tie-break, against the South African pair Mariska Venter/Kgothatso Montjane.
Charlotte Fairbank will compete in her first round in singles against the British Lucy Shuker on court 14, with milder weather forecast, this Saturday August 31.
