The President of the National Assembly says she is in favour of reopening discussions on pension reform “with trade union organisations and employers”. But not on raising the retirement age: “We must not touch it”.
On Monday morning, September 9, on Europe 1, Yaël Braun-Pivet spoke about the resumption of debates around pension reform after the “dissolution” break this summer.For me, this reform was important, and even vital to preserve our system.” she defends, “more than 1.7 million of our compatriots benefit from it today directly through the increase in their small pensions. It does not have, as we can hear, negative effects“.
“Let’s look at what can be improved”
However, the President of the National Assembly admits that on certain aspects, “we didn’t go all the way“Which, according to her, justifies a reopening of discussions.”with trade union organizations and with employers“. Opposing the “suspension”, Yaël Braun-Pivet therefore favors exchange, on subjects such as “hardship, women’s careers… Let’s look at what can be improved, let’s think about a more systemic reform: points-based retirement, introducing capitalization… Nothing is closed.”
On the other hand, regarding the most sensitive point of this reform, namely the extension of the retirement age, she is categorical: “We must not touch it. It was important. All European countries are at that age, or even much older.” she justifies. It is precisely on this point that the anger of a part of the population and left-wing organizations in the country has crystallized. On May 1, between 782,000 people (according to the Ministry of the Interior) and 2.3 million (according to the CGT) demonstrated against this reform and against the extension of the retirement age.
