Competing this Saturday morning in the 100m backstroke heats, Léane Morceau qualified for the final where she has the potential to win a medal.

Léane Morceau has ensured the essentials. The adopted Limoges native will compete this Saturday afternoon (5:37 p.m.) in her first Paralympic final. At 21 years old.

She qualified this Saturday morning by achieving the 7th time in the 100m backstroke series (1’15″04). “The time is really not great, I would have liked to do better but the goal was to qualify for the final: it has been achieved”, assured the member of CAPO Limoges a few minutes after her race.

Benoit Monpion, her Limoges coach, was also satisfied with this qualification: “She swam relaxed in the first 50m, perhaps a little too much, but that allowed her to reach the final. I hope she saved herself to give her all for the medal.”

With 1’15″04, Léane Morceau has some margin on her personal record (1’12″07). Comparing with the morning series (Brazilian Santiago Gomes in 1’09″60, Ukrainian Stetsenko in 1’11″20 and Spaniard Delgado Nadal in 1’13″88), beating her record in the Paralympic final would allow her to consider getting on the podium at the end of the day. “That’s what I have in mind,” she assured in the mixed zone. “However, we’re going to have to go get it…”. Dare you?
