Here we are! After a very eventful weekend in Loudenvielle, the finals of the penultimate round of the 2024 Downhill World Cup are due to take place this Sunday. The Juniors are the first to take to the track at 11:30, with the girls, followed by the boys. Competitions to follow on FullAttack!
These first finals already tell us what the conditions are like this Sunday. Grey skies, cool temperatures, but no rain for the juniors. The track is still greasy and has a few ruts in places, but it has been able to settle down and dry out a little. In the women’s category, it is Erice Van Leven who takes advantage of this to win and take the lead in the general classification. Ellie Hulsebosch falls when she misses a support when tipping into the slope and lets new important points fly away. Heather Wilson, barely less consistent and on the limit in the second part of the track, takes second place, ahead of Sacha Earnest, who stays in the running for the general classification…
In the boys’ category, the ruts and holes that litter the track cause damage. Luke Wayman falls in the last corner but crosses the line with the best time. Mylann Falquet, Bode Burke, Riko Maeuibo, Clement Laugier, John Mozell and George Madley are trapped in the slope, some of them in spectacular falls. Another driver trapped in a rather spectacular way, Asa Vermette, leader of the general classification, who falls in one of the first corners on the slope, his front wheel planted in one of the many holes in the support. A godsend for Max Alran who did not ask for so much. The Frenchman, in his immaculate European champion kit, signs an impressive victory, and in style! Tyler Waite second and Luke Wayman third, cannot prevent him from taking the lead of the general classification…
