Formula 1 | Ocon: Alpine F1 worked hard to approach Monza in the best possible way

Esteban Ocon was very upset during the Dutch Grand Prix and hopes not to experience the same thing again at Monza this weekend for the Italian GP.

Indeed, while Pierre Gasly managed to get by with his Alpine A524, the other Norman struggled with his single-seater and its settings.

“It was a tough weekend at Zandvoort. We maximised everything we could on race day with few overtaking opportunities and the traffic ahead of us, but unfortunately that only resulted in fifteenth place.”

“This meeting was not without its positives, however. The other side of the garage (Gasly) put in a superb effort to pick up more points for the team and it was a learning experience for us. We were able to gather more data to help us understand where we are struggling and how we can continue to improve. We debrief before Monza, where we hope to come back stronger.”

What can we hope for this race at the Temple of Speed that is Monza? Ocon is not planning ahead, probably knowing that the lack of power of the Renault engine could cost him dearly.

“I always love the Monza race weekend and being immersed among the Italian fans. The Tifosis are unique, their passion is infectious and the team really love coming to the Italian Grand Prix. I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy during my young career so this circuit holds a special place in my heart and it’s obviously incredible.”

“It’s so iconic and the speeds really get the adrenaline pumping. Every driver loves to race at Monza. The build-up to Zandvoort means we won’t have much time to reflect on last week, but we’ve worked hard to approach Monza in the best possible way.”
