Flavio Briatore expressed his “surprise” in the face of Franco Colapinto’s performances in Formula 1 at the end of the 2024 season. It is for this reason that the former team director pushed hard to sign the young Argentinian nugget.
Alpine therefore decided to integrate him into its team, although his role at Alpine, similar to that he held at Williams, was that of test and reserve driver.
However, the signing of a multi-year contract with Alpine demonstrates the team’s ambition to place the young 21-year-old driver in a racing seat in the more or less near future.
Although the team has already established a driver duo to start the season with Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan, the arrival of Franco Colapinto to the team puts additional pressure on the young Australian.

Despite a difficult end to the season, marked by heavy accidents in São Paulo and Las Vegas, Franco Colapinto showed his potential by signing good results at the wheel of a modest Williams. Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s executive advisor, remains convinced that he will be a future star of the discipline.
“It’s clear that Franco is one of the best young talents in motorsport today.”
“It’s fair to say that his appearance on the Formula 1 grid last year surprised many, myself included, and his performance was very impressive for a rookie driver.”
“We have an eye on our future and his signing means we have a large number of young drivers that we can rely on and work with to develop the team for future success.”concluded Flavio Briatore.
