Alpine announces Colapinto as reserve for 2025

Second announcement of the day for Alpine Team, Franco Colapinto is confirmed in a multi-year contract as test and reserve driver. This already puts pressure on Jack Doohan.

The 21-year-old Argentine driver replaced Logan Sergeant at Williams in 2024 to complete 9 grands prix and score points twice, 5 in total, therefore doing better than the American driver he replaced. He stirred up an entire population, but also certain team directors who had their eye on the Argentinian, including Red Bull Racing. But it was ultimately Alpine which managed to capture Franco Colapinto in its ranks, when he was a resident of the Williams Racing academy.

Colapinto, reservist at Alpine, for the moment?

There is no doubt that if the young Australian Jack Doohan, who debuted in F1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to replace Esteban Ocon, does not satisfy the Alpine F1 board, a driver is already ideally suited to replace him, if the decision has not already been made.

Alpine therefore announces him in a multi-year contract as a test and reserve driver. He will also share driving duties with Paul Aron and Ryō Hirakawa (announced this morning) as part of the previous car testing program [TPC]while contributing to the team’s efforts on the driver simulator loop at its Enstone headquarters.

Franco Colapinto

I am very happy to have the opportunity to join the BWT Alpine Formula One Team. First of all, I would like to thank Williams for all the support they have given me from the moment I joined the Academy until the last race in Abu Dhabi. They made my dream of racing in Formula 1 a reality, and I will always be grateful to them.

Now it is time to open a new chapter, and taking on this challenge with BWT Alpine Formula One Team is truly an honor. Many thanks to Luca de Meo, Flavio Briatore and Oliver Oakes for believing in me and welcoming me into the team with open arms. I can’t wait to get started and see where this journey takes us.

I would also like to warmly thank all my sponsors and partners who have supported me throughout the 2024 season. Your support has made all of this possible, and to my incredible Argentinian fans: “Muchas gracias!” “. Your passion and encouragement mean a lot to me. Let’s aim for even bigger things in 2025 and beyond.

Flavio Briatore

We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Williams Racing to sign Franco Colapinto. Franco is clearly one of the best young talents in motorsport today. It’s fair to say that his appearance on the Formula 1 grid last year surprised many, myself included, and his performance was very impressive for a rookie driver. We have our eyes on the future and his signing means we have a large pool of young drivers who we can work with to develop the team for future success.
