At that time, doctors had discovered an ovarian cyst before speaking of “pseudomyxoma peritonei” or “gelatinous disease of the peritoneum”. A tumor on Faye Louise's appendix then ruptured, causing cancer cells to leak throughout her body.

During a long operation, the forty-year-old had her spleen, uterus, tubes, navel, omentum and part of the liver removed. She also underwent chemotherapy and curettage of the diaphragm and pelvis. As the organs removed were not vital, Faye was able to recover and return to work a little over a year after the procedure.
For the moment, the disease has disappeared and for the British woman, this is the “best Christmas present”. However, she will have to undergo annual exams to monitor a possible relapse: “Waiting for the results will unfortunately be the key to the success or failure of each Christmas for me. But you have to keep moving forward and never give up,” Faye Louise told the BBC.
