undisputed leader, Liverpool secures against Leicester for Boxing Day

First in the Premier League, the Reds continued their hellish pace by winning this Thursday evening against Leicester (3-1) after a two-speed match.

Leader Liverpool, quickly led, outclassed poorly ranked Leicester (3-1) on Thursday during “Boxing Day” and is now seven points behind Chelsea, its runner-up, who also played one more match. Nothing stops the “Reds”, and especially not a goal from Jordan Ayew (6th, 0-1) conceded at the start of the match and against the run of play.

In the fog of Anfield, Arne Slot’s team exerted constant and irresistible pressure, rewarded by goals from Cody Gakpo (45th + 1, 1-1), Curtis Jones (49th, 2-1) and Mohamed Salah (82nd, 3-1). Before going to West Ham on Sunday, Liverpool dominates the Premier League standings with 42 points, far ahead of Chelsea (2nd, 35 pts), beaten 2-1 by Fulham on Thursday at home.

Nottingham Forest (3rd, 34 pts), victorious 1-0 over Tottenham, completes the podium with a lead over Arsenal (4th, 33 pts), who host Ipswich on Friday. Since taking over from Jürgen Klopp in the off-season, Dutch coach Arne Slot has transformed Liverpool into an almost unstoppable winning machine: his “Reds” now have 22 wins, against three draws and one defeat, all competitions combined.

His compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy, who arrived at the end of November, suffered a third successive setback on Thursday, after two dry defeats against Newcastle (0-4) and Wolverhampton (0-3). The “Foxes” (18th, 14 pts) slide into the relegation zone where they take the place of Wolverhampton (17th, 15 pts), 2-0 winner of Manchester United earlier in the day.
