F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali gave the 2024 season a pretty good rating.
We could have expected better from the Italian given the much more competitive championship but he wants to leave room for improvement.
“As far as the season goes, I would rate it an 8 [sur 10]. But I think next year could score even higher because we have all the ingredients for a great show.”
“We will also have many young drivers on track, and this reflects the positive moment for our sport.”
As an Italian and a former Ferrari team principal, Domenicali was understandably asked about Lewis Hamilton's arrival. How to increase audiences?
“He will bring a lot of interest. He is learning Italian to understand how to integrate into our culture. I told him that it was also essential for him to be able to do that. At Ferrari he will be in a different environment than the one he's used to.”
Domenicali added that Leclerc may have to adapt to having a figure like Hamilton alongside him.
“Charles will of course have to accept that someone of Lewis' status is not an easy teammate. On the other hand, Lewis will certainly have the ability to convey positivity in his efforts to achieve his record 8 titles. They will respect a lot, and I hope they continue to do so at the end of the year. It would be better for everyone!”
Domenicali finally highlighted as room for improvement in this rating the continued evolution of Formula 1, as well as its expansion into untapped regions and the technical advances at the heart of its long-term strategy.
“The next goal? I would like to consolidate the growth we have experienced in recent years, even in countries or continents where we are not yet as strong and rooted as in others.”
“And then there are also the technical aspects, like new sustainable fuels, and the F1 film [avec Brad Pitt, qui devrait sortir au cinéma en 2025]. This will take us to a new dimension in terms of audience.”
