Mass start of Grand-Bornand | The beautiful story of Tarjei Boe, the Blues miss their exit

It's an adage that we ended up forgetting, but one Boe can replace another on the biathlon scene. The day after Johannes' triumph in pursuit, it was Tarjei, his big brother, who won the mass start of Grand-Bornand. Best Norwegian in shooting this Sunday (19/20), the eldest of the Scandinavian armada won with 4″ ahead of the German Danilo Riethmueller (19/20), author at 26 of his first podium in the World Cup, and 10″ on Johannes Boe (17/20), who is ahead of three other Norwegians. Day without for the Blues, too quickly distanced from the race lead. The best of them, Fabien Claude (17/20), is 9th at 37″.

It’s quite a revenge for Tarjei Boe. The man with now 14 World Cup successes had not raised his arms for over a year (Hochfilzen sprint). Above all, he had been kindly put aside during the sprint and the pursuit, victim of the monstrous competition within his selection. The 36-year-old biathlete therefore had the knife between his teeth this Sunday, but also freshness to spare, and he completed a race which would have been perfect without this missed ball on his 20th and last target. But the others were much more imprecise and the winner of the big globe in 2011 was able to complete his last lap without coming back to enjoy this success that was no longer expected.

Fifth podium in a row for Johannes Boe

Tarjei Boe has undoubtedly offered himself a reprieve, at least for the month of January, in this Norwegian team whose ranks he is improving for the 17th consecutive season. He rises to 11th place overall but remains the 5th biathlete in his nation at a respectable distance from his big brother leader Johannes (569 pts), who by signing his 5th consecutive podium has a 115-unit lead over Sturla Laegreid (4th to 11 “, 18/20) and 196 on Emilien Jacquelin, author this Sunday of his worst result of the winter. Back on the skis (13th time), he committed four shooting errors, including two on the first, to rank 16th at 1'36”.
