Max Verstappen thanks Sergio Perez after Red Bull departure announcement

Max Verstappen wanted to pay tribute to Sergio Perez after he was fired by Red Bull. The four-time World Champion highlighted the Mexican's qualities of “frankness” and “honesty” during their years working together at Red Bull.

The Austrian team has officially ended its partnership with Sergio Perez, likely marking the end of the Mexican's Formula 1 career. The following day, Red Bull confirmed the arrival of Liam Lawson as Max Verstappen's new teammate for 2025.

Liam Lawson will become Verstappen's fifth partner at Red Bull, after Sergio Perez, Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo, since the 2016 F1 season.

Max Verstappen praised the contribution of his former garage neighbor not only for his performances on the track, but also for his human qualities, evoking the positive impact he had on the team throughout their collaboration.

He was a great teammate for me. As you can of course see in this photo, without his help in this race this would not have happened. I will always be grateful to him.”

“I think what's really most important is that he was always pleasant, direct and honest.”

“It’s rare to have a teammate you can say all these things about.”

“I am very grateful to Checo as a person, not as a teammate. It was really nice to work with him”, concluded the man who will be aiming for a fifth world title next season.
