Despite its dive into electrification, the English manufacturer Lotus seems not to have forgotten its roots. It is in fact launching five special editions of the Emira, which pay homage to the brand's most emblematic single-seaters.
The first car honored is historic, since the Type 25, driven in particular by Jim Clark, was in 1962 the very first monocoque F1. Devoid of sponsors, the green livery with a yellow stripe has become legendary, and it is worn today by the Emira.
Perhaps even more legendary, the Type 78 “JSP”, black with gold stripes, left its mark. It was also the first ground-effect F1 car.
Senna's story
A version of the Emira also salutes an F1 which has never participated in the slightest GP: the Type 88 of 1981, with its chassis in the chassis to increase ground effect, was in fact banned by the FIA even before to take part in a race. Finally, there remain two Emiras which recall the history of Ayrton Senna at Lotus. The first refers to the 97T, also in the colors of the tobacco company John Player Special, in which the Brazilian won his first victory for the brand.
And we end with the yellow Emira, which recalls the Type 99T, then sponsored by another brand of cigarettes, in which Senna won two races. These last two Emiras wear the number 12 on the wing, that of Ayrton during his time at Lotus.
Each of these five liveries will be produced in 12 copies, which will be available in 12 European countries, at a price of 110,000 euros. These cars mark the launch of the brand's new personalization program, called Chapman Bespoke.
