While he competed in his last Formula 1 Grand Prix last weekend in Abu Dhabi, Valtteri Bottas returns to the rumor linking him to Red Bull.
Valtteri Bottas was surprised, as were his fans, to learn he was being linked with a move to Red Bull Racing. A confusion which took root on the official F1 store, following an erroneous update during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
As the official store revamped driver-related merchandise for the 2025 F1 season, Bottas was listed as part of the Red Bull Racing team. This technical error quickly fueled speculation about a possible role for the Finn within the Austrian team.
“I started getting messages from people asking if I was joining Red Bullhe said. I said, 'Not that I know of,' but the messages kept coming.”
Once he understood the origin of this rumor, Bottas chose to laugh at the situation. “It’s just rumors” he added with humor, dispelling any misunderstanding.
A return to a top team? Unlikely according to Bottas
Asked about the possibility of joining Red Bull, Bottas recalled that he felt reluctant to consider this option:
“I have the feeling that there are people at Red Bull who don't really like me. I don't know why, but I doubt it's a realistic path for me.”
Drawing on his past experience at Mercedes, where he was qualified “sensational winger” by Toto Wolff, Bottas remains convinced of his ability to fulfill such a role.
“I know I could do the jobhe declares. But Red Bull seems to favor its drivers from their junior program, which makes sense given the investments they have made.
A conclusion tinged with irony
True to his relaxed spirit, Bottas concluded on a humorous note: “Maybe you could ask them directly? And if you get an answer, tell me!”
