Nico Rosberg, 2016 World Champion, spoke about the contractual situation of Sergio Pérez, whose place is in great danger at Red Bull.
Despite a contract running until 2026, Sergio Pérez seems to be more than ever in the hot seat at Red Bull. Liam Lawson would even be the big favorite to replace the Mexican driver in great difficulty.
However, Pérez's contract extension earlier this year could make the Mexican's departure more complicated than expected.

Rosberg : “[Pérez] at least wants his money”
Nico Rosberg, now a consultant, even revealed rumors that “16 million” were at stake with the contract in place for Pérez.
“Sergio Perez has been one of the mysteries of recent times, how you can lose your form so extremely?”Nico Rosberg told Sky Sports F1. “He is so far behind that he has difficulty getting close to six or seven tenths of Max [Verstappen]which is huge in F1.”
“That's why all the rumors suggest he's leaving, but he hasn't confirmed it yet because he apparently has a contract for next year. And we've heard rumors that there's about 16 million at stake. He at least wants his money, so he's not going to leave that easily. And I think there are lawyer discussions going on at the moment.”
As for Sergio Pérez's replacement, Nico Rosberg believes that “it’s a difficult decision” pour Red Bull.
“Who should replace him?” continues Rosberg. “Yes, it's a tough decision to make, and the options aren't fantastic due to Lawson's lack of experience. But I think the rumor is that they are going with Lawson, the new driver they signed recently in the Racing Bull car. It's not easy either because against Yuki Tsunoda, it's not like he's been on another planet, he's been there or almost there. But I think that’s the gamble they’ll take.”
