General Motors has confirmed the information that we first reported to you on December 1: the manufacturer has appointed Graeme Lowdon as team principal of Cadillac, which has signed an agreement to enter Formula 1 in 2026.
GM therefore places an experienced name at the helm, Lowdon was the sporting director of the now defunct Manor team, which existed from 2010 to 2016.
“I am truly honored to be named team principal of this exciting new adventure and I would like to thank everyone involved for their trust.”
“I believe Formula 1 is the greatest team sport in the world, and teams are all about people.”
“Cadillac is a team that really loves racing and wants to go there, and we have the experience and expertise to do it.”
“Racing is at the very heart of everything we do. That's what I want to see in a team, and I really want to be a part of it.”
Lowdon became involved in the Andretti venture in January 2023 in response to the FIA opening an expression of interest process to invite new candidates to apply to enter F1.
But while FOM declined the initial offer under the Andretti Global name, General Motors is now prepared to enter under the Cadillac name once the new regulations take effect.
General Motors will continue to split the operation between the United States and the United Kingdom, where it has a satellite base located near Silverstone.
“I do not underestimate the task ahead of us and I have the greatest respect for the competition.”
“I look forward to the challenge. In the meantime, our work continues at pace to be ready in 2026.”
Mark Reuss, chairman of General Motors, noted that Lowdon “has great racing expertise” and that he “knows how to build a successful team.”
“He embodies the values that the Cadillac Formula 1 team will represent in all its endeavors, on and off the track.”
