“I have always, I find, lacked humanity or humanity in my career”: to remedy this, the French champion Alain Prost, nicknamed “the Professor” in Formula 1, looks back on his career in a documentary series broadcast from Sunday on Canal+.
“Out of modesty, also out of professional conscience (and) out of difficulty, because it wasn't always obvious with the media, no one knows my life or my childhood,” explained the four-time world champion during the presentation on Monday , of this series in 6 episodes of 26 minutes.
“I wanted to tell this story outside of certain sporting episodes,” adds Alain Prost, 69 years old. ” For what? Because if there’s one part of my life that I’m most proud of, it’s the beginning.”
A Netflix series about Senna
Between archive images and testimonies from the pilot, his relatives and journalists, “Prost” begins in his childhood, between a sunny grandmother who survived the Armenian genocide and a seriously ill older brother. The discovery, by chance, of karting will be a turning point for the teenager who is passionate about football.
Then comes the sporting career, up to F1, rewarded with four world titles (1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993) and 51 Grand Prix victories.
Its culmination was, without doubt, one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the sport, with Ayrton Senna. An episode that Alain Prost describes as “wonderful” and “incredible” but sometimes “complicated to live with” because it is a “kind of reduction of my life” that we don’t go a day without reminding him of.
A rivalry at the heart, moreover, of another series, fictionalized this time: “Senna”, on Netflix, which retraces the career of the Brazilian, who died racing in 1994.
