Rui Marques, the F1 race director, will also have to take charge of F2 this weekend. Indeed, as we reported to you yesterday, the president of the FIA has in fact decided to also fire Janette Tan, who had been appointed to succeed Marques in F2 and F3.
In the past, this workload has been considered too high. Charlie Whiting had already asked to resign from all these responsibilities to concentrate on F1 and this had been respected since.
According to the drivers, is there a risk that Marques (in photo below) will be overwhelmed by his task?
"I find it very, very difficult to judge," replies Charles Leclerc.
“I mean, it's not like we actually know how much work there is for those three categories. At least personally, I don't. So, yeah, I think it's very, very difficult to judge whether it's too much or not.”
“I suppose he will be the first to experience it. But the first race went very well with him in Las Vegas. And he was very open-minded in listening to us, the drivers, and doing things the right way And it was very positive But regarding the workload, I think it is very difficult to judge or say anything from our side.
"I completely agree with Charles," continues Pierre Gasly at his side.
“As he said, I think the first race weekend was very positive, Rui is very objective and open to discussion and very factual as well. So I'm sure that whatever happens, if it doesn't allow it to be at F1 level, I'm sure there will be changes in the future. So at the moment we're asking to see. But like I said, it's a. good start and we'll see how it goes the next two weekends.”
"Yes, not much to add," pour Fernando Alonso. “Only he knows if it's too much or not. Or probably he'll only know after the weekend, not now.”
Asked what he knows about the situation within the FIA, four-time world champion Max Verstappen said: “I know more and more people have left, but I don’t know who or why.”
“But I don't think it's ideal for the FIA for people to leave. It just depends on who will replace them. Who will take over all these tasks?”
