In Las Vegas, for the 22nd Grand Prix of the season, the drivers are preparing for the final sprint of the year. But during free practice on Friday, November 22, several of them reported an inconvenience: the smell of cannabis even passed through their helmets and hoods. “What we notice a lot throughout the tour is the smell of marijuanatestified, laughing, the Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) after his tests in front of the media. I think all drivers will remember that. The quantity is quite incredible.”
The Argentinian Franco Colapinto (Williams) preferred to laugh at the situation: “If we drug tested all the pilots right now, I think we would all be positive..” While cannabis is prohibited while driving in the state of Nevada, it has been authorized since January 1, 2017 for recreational purposes.
The situation is not new in the United States. In 2019, on the Austin circuit, Sebastian Vettel had already mentioned the smell of cannabis even within his Ferrari. “It’s always fun to drive here”he laughed then.
