Lance Stroll has been an F1 driver since his debut in the Championship in 2017. The Canadian driver then took his first steps in the discipline during the Australian Grand Prix, at the wheel of a Williams.
Eight seasons and 163 Grands Prix later, having known three teams (Williams, Racing Point and Aston Martin), Lance Stroll has one pole position and three podiums in F1. However, he was also noticed by big accidents as well as by some great stupidities in the race, the latest to date: his retirement in Brazil, in the formation lap.
Son of Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, owner of the team in which his son Aston Martin races, it seems that Lance Stroll is the only driver on the grid who does not have to worry about his future in F1, regardless of the results. Since his arrival in the F1 paddocks, he has systematically been beaten by his teammates, except in 2018. At the end of this season, Lance Stroll beat Sergey Sirotkin, his teammate at Williams.
According to Andrew Benson, journalist for the BBC, Lance Stroll is the sole master of his destiny. He will decide when he stops F1 and no one else.
“Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has never said it so clearly, but people who know him well and have worked for him believe he bought an F1 team for his son, and that his great ambition is for Lance to become world champion ”, Benson wrote ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
“So Lance will be in the car as long as he wants to be an F1 driver. And the big question about the team is what will happen to them if one day they no longer want to continue.”
“Lance Stroll clearly has talent – he put a Racing Point on pole position in the wet in Turkey in 2020, for example, and he shows good things from time to time. But he still has to prove that he can achieve this kind of performance other than very occasionally.”
“Given that a team must have two cars, it is difficult to see how Stroll can ever be world champion, as one can imagine that the main driver Aston Martin signs alongside him in the future will be faster .”

Lance Stroll will always have a top teammate in F1
In recent years, Lance Stroll has only raced with Formula 1 World Champion drivers; Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso.
“The main seat is occupied until the end of 2026 by Fernando Alonso. He will be 45 at the end of his contract and has not said if he wants to continue beyond that.”
“If Alonso leaves or the team decides to sign someone else, it is likely that he will be replaced by another top driver, who should once again beat Stroll based on the evidence provided so far. now.”
“As for the question of whether seats should be allocated based on talent alone, it has always been true that in F1 some drivers owe their place at least in part to the funding they bring with them. It’s an expensive sport.”
“Stroll owns the team. People may not like it, but it's his prerogative who he puts in the car”, concluded the F1 journalist.
