Canadian GP advanced to improve carbon footprint

Canadian Formula 1 fans will have to change their habits. While since 1982, and the victory of Nelson Piquet, the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix has systematically taken place in June, this will change from 2026. The F1 organizers have in fact announced that the Canadian GP would be held on the third or fourth weekend of May, for ecological and logistical reasons.

Sometimes criticized for its lack of consistency in the calendar, the number 1 sport in the automotive world is trying to improve, and has therefore decided to avoid a long trip to North America in the paddock.while the month of June is reserved for European GPs. So, this season, the drivers completed the GPs of Emilia-Romagna and Monaco, before flying to Canada, then returning to the Old Continent for the GPs of Spain, Austria, Great Britain… He will be the same in 2025, with the Canadian GP set for June 15, between Spain (June 1) and Austria (June 29).

A goal of carbon neutrality in 2030

From 2026, it will take place after that of Miami and before that of Monaco, shifted from the end of May to the beginning of June, as was made official last week. “I am extremely grateful to the promoter and all government partners involved in the Canadian Grand Prix, from local to provincial and national government,” said Formula 1 President Stefano Domenicali.
