On the occasion of National Day, Prince Albert II granted an exclusive interview to Monaco-Matin (to be published Monday and Tuesday in the paper newspaper) where he notably shares his satisfaction after the decision of the Formula 1 teams, announced on November 14, to extend the contract that binds them to the Monaco Grand Prix until 2031.
“We can only rejoice at this news. I knew it was on the right track, as of Wednesday [13 novembre]both the president of the Automobile Club, Michel Boeri, and Stefano Domenicali [patron de la F1, NDLR] informed me of this. There were still a few details to sort out which took a little longer than expected.”explains the Sovereign in the interview to appear in the columns of Monaco-Matin.
“I think, without committing too much, that it will also be renewed after this date”
“We had to find compromises, not as everyone imagines on the price of the set, but on different arrangements, so that Liberty Media could receive more and more guests. And everyone knows that this is not the case. It's not easy to find space at the side of the circuit.”
The new contract marks the extension of this partnership, which was to end in 2026, until 2031. “We now have this six-year perspective,” welcomes the Sovereign, who also showed confidence in the future of this legendary competition in the Principality which has been held every year in May since 1929 (1950 for F1, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025). “I think, without committing too much, that it will also be renewed after this date.”
Enough to also satisfy Charles Leclerc, the Monegasque driver who won the 2024 Grand Prix at home, who knows that he will be able to perform for a few more years in his country.
