Pablo Longoria's sports advisor, under contract until December, could return to the Marseille club, according to L'Equipe.
Arriving in October 2023, Mehdi Benatia was able to mark his territory at Olympique de Marseille. From his statements on the Jonathan Clauss case to a summer transfer window where he participated in the arrival of certain big names like De Zerbi, Hojbjerg and Rabiot, the 37-year-old former player has become a strong man in the Marseille clan. To the point that OM now wants to install him as sporting director, according to information from The Team .
Until then, Benatia had “only” the role of sports advisor to the president of the club, Pablo Longoria, because of the contract which binds him to an agent company which prevents him from obtaining managerial status. With its mission ending on December 5, OM is reportedly preparing a contract to preserve one of its strong men within its training club as a player. In an interview on RMC, the former captain of the Morocco selection clearly expressed his intentions to stay in Marseille. “I don't even need to talk about the contract, I don't care, what will it change in my life? I am here to be at the service of the president, at the service of the coach, to try to attract the best players and give them the best possible mentality.
