Sergio Perez and his father have renewed their criticism of the media and rumors which have marred the Mexican's 2024 season.
Despite signing a new contract for 2025 earlier this season, the 34-year-old struggled alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull, fueling speculation he would be replaced.
One of the latest rumors was that he would announce his retirement at the recent Mexican GP.
"The media said that in Mexico he would say goodbye," said Perez's father, politician Antonio Perez Garibay.
“They should at least now apologize.”
Although team advisor Dr Helmut Marko still claims Red Bull will review Perez's position after the season finale in Abu Dhabi, the Mexican driver says he has addressed the rumors “with humor”.
"I laugh at everything the media makes up – everything they talk about," said Sergio Perez.
“I'm not talking about everyone, because there are also professional journalists. But it's difficult to understand for an athlete: everyone can have a bad race or make a bad decision, but in the European media, there is an excess of lack of professionalism.”
One of the latest rumors is that Red Bull boss Christian Horner has signed new partnerships with Perez-linked sponsors for 2025, even approving the manufacturing of 2025 team clothing and merchandise bearing the new brands .
This could explain Perez and his father's apparent confidence that he will definitely be Verstappen's teammate beyond this year.
"Checo will be here for the next two years," continued Antonio Perez Garibay. “He said that, if the opportunity presented itself, he would consider retiring with Red Bull.”
“They are the most professional team around – the world champion team. They are doing what is necessary to improve, not only with Checo's car, but also with Max Verstappen's.”
“They are still fighting for the championship. I think Max will be world champion again and Red Bull is preparing to be in the top three constructors. The restructuring will then come at the end of the year.”
