New Aston Martin F1 CEO Andy Cowell has defended the team's complex technical structure, as technical director Dan Fallows quit his post.
Fallows was brought on board in 2022 as technical director by the team, but it was announced this week that he would step down from that role and move elsewhere within the technical department. According to our information, he should remain involved in the F1 project and not join (for the moment) the Hypercar project.
In recent months, Aston Martin F1 has recruited a number of high-profile technical figures, starting with Adrian Newey (Red Bull), Enrico Cardile (Ferrari) and Eric Blandin (Mercedes F1), prompting questions about the how this trio would fit into the existing structure, not forgetting Director of Engineering Tom McCullough.
Aren't all these beautiful people going to step on each other? Cowell, who took over as CEO from Martin Whitmarsh, defended Aston Martin F1's approach: more minds mean more chances of a quick climb to the top.
“I remember Mercedes Grand Prix bringing together a host of impressive technical directors and everything going well in 2014,” Cowell explains.
“We are a fairly young organization although, since the Jordan days, this team has been around for a few decades. But the change to a team that aims to be at the forefront and operate with this level of facilities and resources n “It's only recent.”
“Whether it’s setting up our own wind tunnel and all the facilities needed to do that, whether it’s manufacturing a new gearbox to put on the back of the Honda powertrain for 2026 or “To make sure the simulation tools are top-notch, there's a lot of work to be done.”
“If you have senior leaders who can each take on one of these big challenges and focus on it, then we will get to the front more quickly.”
