It is one of the most prestigious events on the Formula 1 world championship calendar, even if it often results in a boring race in the streets of the Principality due to the virtual impossibility of overtaking during the test. The Monaco Grand Prix has existed since 1929 and is undoubtedly not about to disappear from the Formula 1 world championship given its popularity.
But it will evolve a little in its programming: until now (and for the 2025 edition again), it is traditionally held during the last weekend of May which coincides with the end of the Cannes Film Festival . This is also why it is a somewhat unmissable event for the elite who often combine the Cannes festivities with those of Monaco. But from 2026, this Monaco Grand Prix will be held during the first weekend of June.
No more date conflict with the Indianapolis 500
This change of dates will allow the Monaco Grand Prix to no longer “clash” with the Indianapolis 500, another essential event of the motorsport season. Furthermore, the organizer of the Formula 1 championship specifies that the Monaco Grand Prix will remain on the calendar at least until 2031.
Remember that the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix will be held from 23 have May 25exactly like the Indianapolis 500, the race of which will also be held on May 25. As for the Cannes Film Festival, it will end on May 24.
