Although it generates incredible revenues, Formula 1, like any other sporting discipline, must keep its accounts correctly. Because its expenses are also significantly higher than the majority of sporting disciplines. However, to find the right balance – or rather to sustain good returns –, a reflection is carried out each year regarding the destinations of the paddock. Understand that the countries which host F1 pay to be the theater of the queen discipline of motor sports. But not everyone pays the same price… This is what sometimes explains the disappearance of certain GPs, including the French GP organized at Le Castellet for the last time in 2021 for example.
Monaco saved from the waters
Obviously, faced with a United States fond of spectacle – and mother country of Liberty Media which owns F1 – and countries in the Middle East ready to line up millions of euros by the dozen, Europe pales in comparison. Each contract renewal for a country in the Old Continent is therefore a victory and as such, Monaco can have a smile! The Principality has indeed just secured its GP for the next 6 seasons, i.e. until 2031. The contract, the amount of which is not yet known, only provides for a change of date with a Grand Prix now contested on the first weekend of June and not the last of May. Great news for Monaco which probably remains the most legendary of F1 circuits, not necessarily for its urban and rather slow layout, but for its history since it has been on the calendar since the very first Formula 1 championship in 1950. There is no doubt that the seniority and prestige of this event also plays in its favor in the negotiations, but nothing says that Spa Francorchamps, Monza or even Imola, whose contracts expire in 2025, are spared on the simple basis of seniority or beauty of the lines…
