Carlos Sainz said he could not “still don’t understand certain choices” while Mercedes and Red Bull have not chosen to field it for the 2025 season.
The 2024 season had not started when Carlos Sainz had already lost his Ferrari seat for 2025 following the future arrival of Lewis Hamilton. Certainly deprived of a wheel at Ferrari, his status logically allowed him to hope to join another top team, and more particularly Red Bull and Mercedes who potentially had a place for him.
Mercedes finally focused on internal promotion with the arrival of young Andrea Kimi Antonelli while Red Bull chose to extend Sergio Pérez. The biggest incomprehension is perhaps here for Carlos Sainz, given the Mexican's results.
Finally, and for lack of anything better, the Spaniard chose to join Williams from next season, having placed his trust in the project led by James Vowles.

Sainz : “It hurt me at the time”
While the doors of Red Bull and Mercedes quickly closed for Carlos Sainz, the Spaniard admitted that this had “hurts at the time”.
“I have definitely come to peace with myself, and I truly believe that if I don't go there, it's because life doesn't want me to go there, there is something else who comes next, who will actually turn out to be good”Sainz told Sky Sports F1.
“It hurt me at the time, we all have an ego, and I have a driver's ego, and I couldn't understand it at the time. I still can't understand some of the choices people made, but at the same time it challenges me even more, and it makes me even more excited for Williams.”
“Williams is the team that invested in me, that supported me from the beginning, the one that came to see me a whole year ago, and that makes me super excited. I said to myself, 'I want to give these guys what they gave me. I want to give them back this confidence in me. I can’t wait to go there and build something good with them.”
