Max Verstappen has declared that his desire to “do everything to win” links him in terms of image to drivers like Michael Schumacher.
Verstappen is now almost assured of obtaining his fourth consecutive F1 title, a title which will have been much more difficult to achieve than in 2024 and has required the Dutchman to surpass himself on several occasions, such as at the Brazilian GP.
But the Red Bull driver was also heavily criticized for his behavior on the track in duels with other drivers, notably with Lando Norris, his No. 1 rival this year.
This desire to not give up, to the point of making a mistake like in Mexico, has not earned him many compliments.
“I don't care about compliments. I want to win and I always give everything to achieve that.”
“I think that’s what connects me to drivers like Michael. He never left anything out to have the best chance of success.”
“Both in the car with its driving style and outside for the development of the car. There is no room for fear, but you also have to use common sense.”
Verstappen recently denied that Norris is his “toughest opponent”.
“Lando is a very good driver but there isn't a single big rival that makes my life hell. The teams are too close together for it to always be a head-to-head battle.”
“Every weekend is different. Some cars work better on certain tracks than others. It's the same with the drivers.”
