Formula 1 | Horner is still the highest paid team principal in but…

Christian Horner has cemented his place as the highest paid team principal in , in terms of directly received salary.

Horner's salary amounted to £8.92 million or €10.8 million annually in 2023 according to accounts published by Red Bull Racing.

This makes him the highest paid team boss on the starting grid. Compared to 2022, Horner received an 11% salary increase in 2023 (he was paid 9.6 million euros in 2022).

2024 has been a difficult year on and off the track for Horner and Red Bull but his salary should not be impacted.

The team's advisor, Dr Helmut Marko, earned £7 million in 2023, or €8.4 million.

Horner, however, is not considered the richest in the F1 paddock.

While his rival Toto Wolff's salary is around £6 million (€7.2 million), he is a one-third shareholder in Mercedes Benz. This means it earned around £25m (€30m) in dividends alone last year. Wolff also joined the billionaires club last year.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown would earn the same as Christian Horner but he is not the McLaren F1 team principal (Andrea Stella gets €4 million for this). Brown also banked £17.4m in total bonuses in 2023.
