A few days after taking sixth place at RB F1, the Haas team lost that same position to Alpine. Ayao Komatsu, the director of the American team, explains the disappointment this represents, and explains the challenges his team had to overcome at Interlagos with Oliver Bearman, 12th at the finish, and Nico Hülkenberg, disqualified.
“It was a very difficult day for the team, we didn't perform well in the race while others got big points” Komatsu said. “Operationally, we haven’t optimized everything in Brazil, so that’s something we need to remember and review.”
“A slight positive was that Ollie's pace on the intermediates – and part of the race with Nico – was actually better than we thought we could achieve, so that's a small positive to have seen that we can improve our relative performance with these tires.”
Despite the loss of sixth position in the constructors' standings, Haas can still hope to overtake Alpine, since the French team is normally less efficient on a regular basis and in more classic conditions.
“We need to look ahead for the last three races, we have decent pace in the dry so we need to refocus after a short break to get the best out of the car and everyone for the next three events in order to regain our 6th place in the championship.”
