the emotion of Ruben Amorim, carried in triumph after Sporting's victory against Manchester City

Sporting Portugal coach Ruben Amorim bid farewell to the supporters for his last home match, a historic victory against Manchester City (4-1). He is preparing to join Manchester United.

“If I win, we will think that the new Ferguson has arrived, which will be difficult to preserve”joked Ruben Amorim before facing Manchester City this Tuesday in the Champions League. The Sporting Portugal coach was officially chosen by Manchester United to take over from Erik ten Hag, and will take up his position with the Red Devils from November 11. For his last home match, and against great rival Manchester United, Ruben Amorim had the perfect outing.

The Lisbon club inflicted Pep Guardiola's City with one of the heaviest defeats in its history (4-1), ending its run of 26 matches without defeat in the Champions League. Amorim, 39, greeted the public at the José Alvalade stadium at length alongside his players and staff after the match. Before kick-off, the supporters deployed a giant tifo to pay tribute to him.

“The result is misleading, modestly judged Amorim at a press conference. We were very lucky today. The emotions with my players, the way they celebrated this victory, the moment spent with the supporters were very, very special. I take these memories to the Premier League. The Portuguese coach will lead one last match at the head of the Lions, this Sunday in Braga. Sporting leads the Portuguese championship with 10 victories in as many matches.
