Formula 1 | Alonso wanted to finish the race for his mechanics and for the victims of Valencia

Fernando Alonso finished his Brazilian Grand Prix in pain, in 14th place.

After an accident in qualifying, he insisted on going to the end even though his back was suffering on the bumps. He wanted to do it “to thank my mechanics and pay tribute to the people who are suffering so much because of the floods in Valencia”.

“Overall it was a difficult day today. We had to change a few components after the accident in qualifying, which slowed the car down a bit. We also had a brake problem after the restart.”

“The car really bounced around in the second half of the race – in other circumstances I would have stopped – but the mechanics did a great job preparing the car after the crash, so I finished the race for them and my compatriots affected by the floods.”

“The hat-trick of races hasn't been easy for us, with another one to come. We need to pull ourselves together and find more performance.”

Lance Stroll didn't even start, leaving in the background on the formation lap. He suspects a problem when reassembling his car, which was also affected by an accident this morning in qualifying.

“It was really strange. I felt like I had a brake failure because as soon as I touched the brakes, the rear axle locked and I found myself a passenger. I was stuck in the gravel and my race was over. It's a real shame because in a wet race like today, anything is possible, but we couldn't seize these opportunities.
